The World of Maj

Solo Project (Student)

About The Project

The World of Maj is a tabletop RPG designed for players who enjoy playing spellcasting classes in fantasy TRPGs. It was developed as part of GAT212, a class on Tabletop RPGs. During this course, our projects either had to do with creating our own RPG, or giving extended feedback on a fellow students' RPG by creating campaign modules for their system.

My primary goal for the project was to explore just how many different types of spellcaster experiences I could develop into a single world, and what I could do to *really* make each feel like a different kind of caster. I've always enjoyed playing spellcasters, but one thing that has always bugged me is that their strengths and weaknesses tend to be the same. You're often a highly effective glass cannon, or have to accept being a mediocre caster who can survive a few hits, but doesn't hit as often. In my mind, Magic can be so much cooler than what classic RPGs do with it, though the way they use it is understandable.

I am currently returning to work on this every once in a while, as there were several goals I feel that my first attempt didn't quite reach. One thing about it's current stat is that I feel that there's a lot more I can do to flesh out the world and give players more things to do in it. My spellbook is also regretfully thin, but there was only so much I could do up against my original deadline. :)

That being said, if you feel like you'd have suggestions or thoughts on how to make it better (even just spell ideas) feel free to drop me a line on the contact page! I'd love to hear them.
