Ninja Trainer 9000

Solo Project (Student), 2013

About The Game

Ninja Trainer 9000 is a falling-object-dodger where the player must survive as long as they can to hone their skills and become the ultimate ninja master. Players can gather skill points as they play, and spend them on new skills and upgraded abilities in between attempts to help them survive longer.

This is a completed game prototype that I was tasked with creating over the course of five weeks. The challenge for this assignment was to create a game centered around the achievement aesthetic (from the M.D.A. framework), coupled with some other form of mental or physical challenge.

This Solo Project is a good example of my competency with...

  • Systems Design

  • Feature Design

  • UX/UI Design

  • 2D Art

I also had the personal goal of creating a game with simple mechanics so that I could focus a bit on creating a game with completely custom art and sound. All visual assets in the game were made by me, while I created my sound effects by generating files with the free tool, BFXR, and modifying them in Audacity to fit my needs.
